Buyer Attendance Decreases While Business Turnover Increases Slightly,Future Prospects of the Market Remains Unclear
PhaseⅠof the 108th session of China Import and Export Fair has been held in Pazhou Complex from October 15th to 19th. Mr. Liu Jianjun, Deputy Secretary General and spokesman of the Fair states, despite the fact that the overseas buyer attendance of PhaseⅠis less than that of the 107th session, business turnover achieves recovery growth but not yet reach the pre-crisis level. The overseas buyer attendance of PhaseⅠis 98000 from 201 countries and regions, 5.5% less than that of the last one, while the total business turnover is 21.15 billion US dollars, up by 12.3% than that of the previous session.
Mr. Liu Jianjun states that the structure of buyers in PhaseⅠhas changed with increasing number of overseas buyers from Europe and emerging markets and decreasing number of buyers from Africa. The uncertain factors still exist. Compared with the 107th session, the buyer attendance has increased by 15.2% in Europe, and that of Asia, Africa, Americas and Oceania has decreased by 9.3%, 15%, 0.9% and 11.2% respectively. On a comparable basis with the Autumn Fair in 2007 before the crisis, overseas buyer attendance has decreased by 4.1%, and those of the European Union and the United States have decreased by 31.1% and 27.2%.
Mr. Liu Jianjun states that the export markets have been differentiated. Compared with last session, the business turnover with Australia, Brazil, Canada and America grow rapidly by 102.4%、80.9%、51.6% and 51.1% respectively. The business turnover with Middle East and Russia increase by 2.7% and 10% respectively, lower than the overall increase rate. At the same time, the business turnover of ASEAN, EU, Japan, India and Africa decreases. The total turnover is 4% less than that of the Autumn Fair in 2007 before the crisis. The market differentiation indicates that process of recovery varies one from another, the economic foundation isn’t consolidated, and there are still some factors affecting sound development of China's foreign trade.
Enterprises are more cautious with taking orders, so short term orders take up more than half of total orders. According to statistics, the percentage of short term orders within 3 months accounts for 51.8% while that of long term orders over 6 months takes up only 12.3%.
A lot of transactions for major categories of products are made, while most companies adjust their quotation higher. Compared with the 107th session, the turnover of consumer electronics, household electrical appliances and electronic and electrical products increase by more than 20%. The bargain ability of enterprises with independent intellectual property rights, self-owned brands and independent marketing capability is enhanced significantly. Generally, quotation offered by enterprises increase by more than 5% and that of new products are 20-30% higher than that of other products. Various machinery and electronic products highlight the concept of “environment friendly”, which is warmly welcomed by overseas buyers.
Meanwhile, foreign trade enterprises positively transform the development mode and attach great importance to product innovation and concept of environment friendly. The proportion of new products exceeds 50% of the total, and a lot of orders are directed to Brand Zone. The turnover of the Brand Zone in PhaseⅠ is 9.36 billion US dollars, accounting for 44.3%, 5.4% higher than that of last session and 10% higher than that of Autumn Fair in 2007.The visits of Canton Fair Online amount to 41.478 million and the accumulated intending turnover reaches 18.98 million US dollars, 7.8% more than that of last session.
It is reported that the first phase of the newly reformed International Pavilion gains great popularity and the number of domestic buyers increases evidently. In this phase, exhibits are divided into 6 product sections including Machinery and Equipment, Small Vehicles and Spare Parts, Electronics, IT Products and Household Electrical Appliances, Hardware and Tools, Building Materials and Kitchen and Sanitary Equipment, and Raw Materials. 613 standard stands are set up, attracting 337 exhibitors from 36 countries and regions. The first-established Brand Zone in International Pavilion attracts 10 well-known brand enterprises from different countries and regions, such as Egypt, Russia, Israel, and Taiwan province, etc. The International Pavilion in this phase improves its quality with unconventional decoration. What’s more, the number of the high-tech and energy saving and environment-friendly products from developed countries and regions in Europe and America has increased significantly. The exhibitors are very confident to make acquaintance with quality trade partners and explore Chinese market as soon as possible via the platform of the Canton Fair.
Mr. Liu Jianjun finally points out that in this session of the Canton Fair, we actively carry out national intellectual property strategy, implement “Measures for the Protection of Intellectual Property Rights during Exhibitions” in full scale and promote the successful experience of IPR protection of the Canton Fair vigorously. The Ministry of Commerce successfully holds a meeting to promote IPR protection of the Fair and strengthens the IPR protection in the Fair. The number of companies that are complained in PhaseⅠ is 290, 15.2% less than that of the same period in last session, showing that the exhibitors’ consciousness of IPR Protection has been increasingly enhanced.
During the Fair, China Foreign Trade Centre signs cooperation agreements with China Southern Airlines, Peruvian Chinese Chamber of Commerce, China Travel Service H.K. Limited respectively. CFTC will keep on inviting more quality buyers to participate in the Canton Fair.
